Ilha Guaíba Visitor Center
Ilha Guaíba, RJ, Brazil 2020The visitor center intervention on Ilha Guaíba is divided into three major complexes: Marine Farm (Fazenda Marinha); Tapera Beach (Praia Tapera); and Trails and Viewpoints. The Marine Farm complex consists of spaces for scientific research and technical courses, as well as guided tours, aimed at welcoming visitors who wish to learn about the island's operations. The BCMF team developed a design that sought, primarily, to improve user comfort, facilitate circulation between the buildings, and establish a stronger visual identity for the complex.
At Tapera Beach, a public educational program is planned, including a visitor center, environmental education rooms, and an amphitheater, among others. Existing infrastructure will be utilized, such as buildings to be renovated, alongside new annexes to be constructed. Functional programs to support researchers on the island are also proposed, featuring dormitories, changing rooms, and leisure areas, also located within existing structures.
Interspersed with the trail network, the architecture team developed the design for viewpoints located along the forest on Ilha Guaíba. The main objective is to provide spaces for observing the Sepetiba Bay landscape, as well as allowing for rest stops for trail users.
The TIG Marine Park therefore aims to be a space open to a diverse public, situated on an island with unique geography, capable of accommodating unexpected uses not currently foreseen in this conceptual design, adapting to the inevitable changes and demands of dynamic contemporary society.
